I am Xiaomu Guo from China. Currently I work for ORBIS
International, a non-profit organization in the field of blindness
prevention. I have been working for ORBIS for 4 years. Prior to it
I was a teacher in Shanghai School for the Blind. My husband and I
have been living in Shanghai for over ten years. He is a professor
in an university. We have a lovely daughter who has just started her
first grade in primary school.
In my work,
I have a multiple role of project manager, training specialist and
M&E specialist. Primarily I work on a project called China
Training Network. This project intends to introduce participatory
approaches to China, to improve the existing training quality, and
to promote participation in the field of community development.
We provide training
services to our partners. I work as a facilitative trainer in these
training workshops. Also, I conduct ToT to development professional
training team in the field. I developed great interest in facilitation
when Dr. Dale Hunter worked with our
team and conducted The
Art of Facilitation training programme. It was from that
time I began to realize that facilitation had such rich meaning
and could be widely used in any situation when you work with people.
It is one of the core competencies for team building, organizational
development, and community development. Considering my professional
background and interest, I have decided to redefine my career path
--- becoming a professional facilitator. Facilitation is a new concept
in China, and there're very few people working on it. My goal is
to introduce this new philosophy and technology to China, especially
to the field of health and civil society development. I believe
with improved and integrated individuals, groups and environment,
we will see a better world.
